2026 Update
This past year has been one of change and growth of the community and Temple Montefiore.
We have worked on restoring the building and reaching out to more people through a variety
of religious and educational events We continue our efforts to grow our congregation and
serve the community.
A “ walk” through 2025 highlights our accomplishments and milestones:
- We had monthly Shabbat services with rabbis from around the state—Rabbi Jack
- Shlachter of Los Alamos, Cantor Cindy Friedman of Santa Fe, Rabbi Zoe Van Raan of Santa Fe, Rabbi Darah Lerner of Albuquerque, and student rabbi, Andrew Cole.
- Jordan Wax presented a fantastic concert of Yiddish music in February, bringing joy to a wider community of Las Vegas;
- Rabbi Van Zaan educated us on perspectives on death and dying. She also led Shavuot services;
- We celebrated Purim with friends and UWC students;
- Neal Behrendt, Bar Mitzvah ’02 Temple Montefiore, led a full Passover seder;
- Welcomed Andrew Cole to work with us on religious matters, as a student rabbi in residence;
- Held High Holiday services with Rabbi Darah Lerner, assisted by Andrew Cole;
- Sadly, said goodbye with a beautiful service at Montefiore Cemetery to friend and board member, Katrina Immerman;
- Hosted author/activist Shuli Dichter who taught us about sharing the Promised Land;
- Brought together an enthusiastic crowd to celebrate Hannukah!
Improvements to the building include a long overdue and major re-stucco, with help from a
FEMA grant. Our successful window restoration drive allowed us to reinforce and preserve
the beautiful stained-glass windows. Thanks to all who donated and to Ted Herburger for
overseeing these projects.
We strive to be a safe community space where people can learn about Judaism and
appreciate the unique history of Jews in Las Vegas. We rely on your membership support and
